Training Program for Competent Dog Owners
(Comprehensive training for dog owners
based on an interdisciplinary approach and international standards)
Purpose of the Program
A dog is a partner, a friend, and a full-fledged member of the family. Responsible dog ownership requires not only love and care but also understanding the animal’s needs and behavior, skills for interacting with it, and the ability to handle challenging situations.
Despite the widespread availability of various dog training courses, there is currently no comprehensive educational module aimed at developing the owner’s competence as a participant in interactions with the dog, society, and the legal system. Training is only a part of the overall system.
Above all, a new ethic of human-dog relationships, which is increasingly necessary today, requires a deep understanding of the essence of these relationships. This understanding forms the basis for solving many problems observed in this field.
The “Training Program for Competent Dog Owners” was developed to meet this challenge. It is based on contemporary scientific knowledge in ethology, veterinary science, animal psychology, zoohygiene, pedagogy, and law, while also taking into account the legislation of Ukraine, the European Union, and the United States.
Similar programs are implemented even at the state level in developed countries. Our program is a modern course adapted to Ukrainian, European, and American legal frameworks, preparing owners for a full and responsible life with their dogs.
Target Audience and Mission of the Program
The program is primarily designed for new dog owners and aims to develop in them:
Solid knowledge of the biological, psychological, and social needs of dogs;
